Robert Mondavi Winery

After splitting with his family at Charles Krug Winery, Robert Mondavi began his winery in 1966. He had the desire to make Napa Valley wine on the same level as those considered to be the best in the world. He chose the To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville to be his home. The Robert Mondavi Winery is known for making excellent Cabernet Sauvignon, his award winning Chardonnay, and for his Fume Blanc, a term he coined for his Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Additionally, the Winery makes Napa Valley Merlot and Pinot Noir.

At West Vail Liquor Mart we are proud to feature all five of these Napa Valley wines and to offer them at fantastic prices. These varietally correct and balanced wines taste great and are easy to recommend to our guests to pair with any meal.

The 2015 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a fabulous wine from Mondavi, not to mention one of the very best values for a Napa Valley Cab. Rich, succulent and inviting, the Napa Valley Cabernet captures the best qualities of the year in a forward, voluptuous style that make it impossible to resist young. Succulent dark cherry, plum, new leather and dark spice notes wrap around the juicy finish. This is an unreal level of quality for a wine at this price point, $32.99.

The 2015 Napa Valley Pinot Noir is a hedonistic sip of plump, juicy red raspberry, red and black cherry fruits layered by violet and herbs complexity with a hint of fresh tobacco wrapped around vibrantly fresh acidity, and a silky texture that sends its fruity, toasty flavors into a long, lingering finish. It is available for $23.99.

An incredible buy, at $21.99, the Merlot’s glorious richness and mouthwatering fruits are on display with the 2016 vintage. It offers deeply intense blackberry and black plum flavors layered with sweet oak spices, and a fresh, earthy complexity (oregano, eucalyptus) on the palate with firm, velvety tannins balanced by the refreshing acidity. The 24% of Cabernet Sauvignon that was included in the blend enhances the wine’s structure, balance and complex flavor profile.

Fresh Meyer lemon and tangerine citrus aromas spring from the glass, joined by juicy grapefruit, ripe peach, guava and a hint of freshly cut grass in the iconic 2016 Fumé Blanc, $17.99. The style, created by Robert Mondavi decades ago, has been endearing American wine lovers to the virtues of the Sauvignon Blanc grape ever since. The addition of a small percentage of Semillon gives the final blend a broader mouth feel and enhanced complexity.

The 2015 Napa Valley Chardonnay’s juicy pineapple and ripe pear fruits mingle with warm apple pie and toasted hazelnut flavors in this incredibly rich textured wine. Its defining creaminess is elevated by refreshing acidity and carries the fruity, toasty flavors along its deliciously rich finish. Perfect at $19.99.
