My Top 5 Beers for the Porch:

As I am writing this, another rogue spring snow storm is dumping snow all over us here at West Vail Liquor Mart. However, in no time we will all be sitting outside and enjoying summer weather. There is nothing better on a warm mountain day than a nice refreshing beverage. Here are a few beers that I would recommend enjoying on a porch, at a park or anywhere you find yourself outside on a hot day (in no particular order):

#1. Upslope Black Tea Shandy – Of course Leinenkugel’s Brewery is perhaps best known for the shandy style beer (beer mixed most commonly with lemonade). Upslope Brewing, based right here in Colorado, has a brand new offering which I think competes quite well. “Black Tea Shandy” is the newest addition to the Upslope portfolio and features black tea and lemon. The tea in addition to the lemonade creates an Arnold Palmer type feel. This beer is not only super crushable but has interesting flavors that I have not seen utilized this well in a beer. This brew was once a one off – available only in the 19oz can, but due to its popularity is now available in 6pks of 12oz cans!

#2. Pilsner Urquell – Nothing revolutionary here, but Pilsner Urquell is probably my all time favorite summer crusher. A true staff favorite here at the store, the 16oz 4pk can is the perfect package for a picnic or a day out on the golf course. It has just enough flavor to stay interesting, while at the same time providing supreme refreshment. An oldie but a goodie!

#3. Brooklyn Summer Ale – The “summer ale” category is not always my favorite. However, in a world of middle of the road summer ale Brooklyn Brewery’s “Summer Ale” stands out with a small but noticeable hop profile. Brooklyn Brewery is relatively new for Colorado distribution and we are more than excited to have them on board. A great beer in 12pks, Brooklyn Summer is perfect for a Barbeque or other summer activities.

#4. Paradox – Future Knowledge – Here is a bit of curveball. “Future Knowledge” from Paradox is the 1st 19oz can the oddball brewery has produced. Both sour and hoppy, it is the perfect mix of both worlds and is very unique. It is available at a great price point and it is just a fun new thing to try if you are looking to experiment and expand your beer palate.

#5. Elevation – 8 Second Kolsch – Elevation brewing, based in Poncha Springs is a favorite of mine and many others within our staff. Their crowning jewel is probably their most simply made beer. 8 Second Kolsch draws the line between easy drinking beer and a slight bit of magical slight fruitiness which separates it from the pack. This beer has long been a staff pick of mine for a reason.

Enjoy these beers as we warm up and get ready for outdoor summer activities!
