The Locations wine project is an offshoot of the Orin Swift Winery led by winemaker and owner David Phinney. The name Orin Swift comes from his father’s middle name, “Orin” and his mother’s maiden name, “Swift.” Phinney took an interest in wine and winemaking during a trip to Italy in 1995 and after working a harvest for the Robert Mondavi Winery in 1997, he decided to start his own company in 1998. At first it was mostly Zinfandel in California, but over the last 15 years he has grown his company into an international operation with a huge cult following. The Locations wines are his latest international project; sourcing and making wine all over the world.
The idea is to make wine simply and represent each location as well as possible with grapes that are common to the region. They travel around and find the best vineyard sites available in each area/country and then work to produce a high quality wine. It is a collaborative effort and each new region presents different challenges and opportunities with people and grapes. The current available wines are…
