In 1990, after years of running global wine companies, Vintner Agustin Huneeus and his wife Valeria founded Quintessa estate in the Rutherford District of Napa Valley. In addition to the Quintessa estate, Agustin’s current vineyard and winery projects include Faust Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Illumination Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc.
Today, their son Agustin F. Huneeus who has worked in the family business for more than 20 years extends the family tradition as head of the wine portfolio in the US and abroad.
The newly released 2016 vintage of Faust Cabernet Sauvignon ($69.99) extends a run of five remarkable vintages in the Napa Valley. Even temperatures throughout the growing season produced excellent clusters, resulting in a bold and powerful wine.
The 2016 Faust Cabernet is a blend of estate vineyards in Coombsville and Rutherford and mountain sourcing in Atlas Peak, Mount Veeder, and Howell Mountain. Intense yet fresh with juicy blueberry and blackberry notes. Dark chocolate and dried herbs seduce the palate while silky tannins and lifting acidity leads to a layered and lingering finish.
The 2016 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent example of a sturdy, full-bodied Napa Cab. The wine is well-built, firm and redolent with sweet tannins having aromas and flavors of black fruit, oak, and a shading of dust make a good pairing partner with grilled meats.
