Tom Mullen
Languages spoken: English
Hometown: Kansas City, MO
Year I moved to Vail: 1988
Expertise: Started as sales associate in 1988 and have progressed to being the sole owner of West Vail Liquor Mart. Basically, I know all facets of operations and buying. Most of my expertise has been concentrated on the wine side of the business, but have also served as beer manager, and most recently have concentrated my efforts on spirits side of the business.
Training: I have sat for the Master Court of Sommeliers Level One and attended the International Wine Guild Sommelier Food and Wine pairing classes twice along with many current and past employees. Began career in the wholesale/retail wine trade and began concentrating efforts to retail only after moving to Vail in 1988. TIPS Certified.
Favorite thing about Winter: I really enjoy the first significant snow fall of the season and the anticipation of the upcoming ski season. I rarely spend time on the slopes of Vail or Beaver Creek, but do get out and do some back country skiing and enjoy winter hiking with my two Labrador retrievers. A good book in front of the fireplace is not a bad winter activity either. After 20 years, I have found Vail and the surrounding areas have plenty to offer in addition to the world class skiing.
Favorite thing about Summer: There is an absolute truth that many long time locals came for the winter and simply stay for the summer. Summer in the mountains means warm days and cool nights. Hiking, camping and just being outdoors are my favorite activities.
